Underwater — A Community Art Project

Join me at the Library on Saturday, August 2, 1-5:30 pm to make a felt panel for Underwater.

Please help celebrate the strength and perseverance exhibited by those recovering from disaster.

Join artist Leesa Haapapuro in making a felted water element for this fiber installation. The completed work will be displayed at the Springboro Performing Arts Center from September 2-26.

Underwater references Dayton’s historic flood, as well as the many extreme weather events experienced today due to climate change. The long-term aftermath of a flood, or other disaster, is rarely addressed. We see dramatic images for a few days/weeks, but those whose lives are capsized, or sunk in debt following catastrophes, are often forgotten. The devastating effects on the mental health of those who suffer trauma go unseen. This installation draws attention to the importance of mental first aid and the value of making art.

Thanks to the artist-clients of We Care Arts and to participants of Art for Wellness, a program sponsored by Russ and Sue West, offered by Goodwill Easter Seal’s Miracle Clubhouse and We Care Arts.

Please consider supporting their missions.

This project was made possible by a grant from Downtown Dayton Partnerships

The Springboro Performing Arts Center is located at 115 Wright Station Way, Springboro, OH 45066
